Selecting the Right Tweezers
When selecting tweezers for an application, several considerations need to be made. First, what shape should the tip be? Second, how precise or sharp should the tip be? Third, of what material should the tweezers be made?
The tweezers' "tip cross section" or TCS best describes the shape of the tip. There is an array of tip cross sections available including rectangles, triangles, circles and half circles - to name a few. A drawing of the tip's TCS is usually included in the manufacturer's catalog.
Next, a tweezers' "critical tip measurements" or CTM is the tweezers' width and thickness no more than two millimeters from its point. Check with
one of our representatives
to help determine the correct CTM for your applications. The tweezers on this site have a CTM from .005 in width and .003 in thickness. However, tweezers with finer points are available - just ask your representative.
Finally, tweezers are made of different materials. Each material has its own features that meet the requirements of the application. Stainless steal AISI 304 is excellent where staining and corrosion are factors. This material is also anti-magnetic and anti-acid. Carbon steel offers good life with its flame-hardened tips, but the material is highly magnetic and subject to rusting. Ceramics are very hard and non-sloughing - perfect for clean room environments. Nickel composite tweezers are non-magnetic and non-scratching but the tips are soft and will tarnish. We offer a full line of quality
